Downtown Mérida and Pok Ta Pok: A Night of Maya Tradition
Visiting Mérida’s Historic Center is about much more than walking among colonial buildings. Here, you can also experience one of the most iconic traditions of Maya culture: Pok Ta Pok, a representation of the ancient ball game.
The performance takes place every Friday at 8:00 p.m., right in the heart of Mérida, surrounded by the architecture of Plaza Grande and the Municipal Palace. It is a special experience that lets you learn more about Maya culture while enjoying the nighttime atmosphere of downtown Mérida.
Before or after the performance, you can explore the area, visit the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, try traditional Yucatecan food, shop for local handicrafts, or simply enjoy the illuminated streets and plazas.
Sacbé Tip: Arrive early to find parking and take some time to explore the Historic Center on foot before the performance begins.
